Friends of Fishing Creek is a non-profit watershed association located in the southwest section of Lancaster County, PA.
We are local residents, landowners, businesses, farmers, teachers, fishermen, hunters, retirees and others whose roots are in our Fishing Creek Watershed and share our passion for preservation.
What We Do
We are committed to monitoring, preserving, enhancing and promoting the Fishing Creek Watershed through education, community involvement and watershed improvement projects. We achieve this through:
educational events
water quality testing
streambank improvement projects
riparian buffer plantings
planting native plants
removing invasive plants
organizing watershed clean-ups
and more!
About Fishing Creek Watershed
Fishing Creek Watershed is a 14 square mile watershed through Providence, Drumore and Fulton townships. There are about 28 miles of streams in the Fishing Creek Watershed.
The Lancaster County Conservancy manages the Fishing Creek Nature Preserve traversing the southern end of Fishing Creek which is open to recreational activities including hiking, biking, fishing and hunting.
Fishing Creek flows directly into the Susquehanna River which flows into the Chesapeake Bay.
Why is our work important?
We are committed to protecting the sensitive ecosystem that exists in the Fishing Creek Watershed. Fishing Creek is designated as a High Quality Coldwater Fishery.
Along with a wild, reproducing brown trout population, Fishing Creek Watershed also sustains; 26 species of mammals, 147 species of birds, 34 species of reptiles/amphibians and at least 26 species of fish.
Friends of Fishing Creek sponsors quarterly public educational and interactive events. This includes monthly water quality testing, clean ups, plantings, and more.
